The 52nd Annual Temagami/n’Dakimenan Colloquium

Theme: “Living Relationships: Exploring Indigenous Relations to Land and Community”

The Temagami/N’Daki Menan Colloquium is a four-day interdisciplinary academic conference and land-based learning experience focused on the relationship between people and place. Held in n’Dakimenan, the traditional territory of the Teme-Augama Anishinaabe (TAA) in Northern Ontario, the event centers on Indigenous self-determination and connections to land and water.

U of T undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, staff and alumni are welcomed to join TAA knowledge keepers, leaders, Camp Wanapitei community members and trip leaders for shared learning.

Participants will explore the TAA’s long-standing relationship with their territory and experiences with settler neighbours in the context of colonialism, resource extraction and tourism. The aim is to foster a shared land ethic among all who now call n’Dakimenan home.

Activities include ceremony, storytelling, canoeing, hiking, swimming, film screenings, poetry readings, music and a Saturday night square dance. Accommodation is in Camp Wanapitei cabins or the Wanapitei Chateau, accessible by car or bus via the Red Squirrel Road.

The IRN is covering the cost of attendance for members of the U of T community on a first-come, first-served basis. Group transportation will be organized through participating universities.
