Truth First: Indigenous Archaeology as Restorative Justice

Members of the U of T community are invited to attend an important conversation in recognition of Orange Shirt Day and Canada’s National Truth & Reconciliation Day, Truth First: Indigenous Archaeology as Restorative Justice, with Professor Kisha Supernant (Métis/Papaschase/British).

Professor Supernant will discuss her research using ground-penetrating radar to identify the sites of potential unmarked graves at former residential schools and her work with Indigenous communities to preserve these sites.

An award-winning teacher, researcher, and writer, Professor Supernant is the Director of the Institute of Prairie and Indigenous Archaeology and a Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Alberta. Her research interests include the relationship between cultural identities, landscapes and the use of space, Métis archaeology, and heart-centered archaeological practice.
